A World of Fables Re-homed in The Potteries
About this project
A heritage project, rooted in our literature for wellbeing approach, preserving the oral fables carried to Stoke-on-Trent by its refugee and asylum-seeker communities, before those stories are lost.
What we're doing
We are facilitating trauma-informed Story Circles where people are invited to share their stories. Those stories are then translated, illustrated, and transformed into lasting creative outputs:
- a multilingual book of the collected tales;
- a permanent online audio archive of the stories in the tellers' own voices;
- a travelling exhibition touring all six towns of Stoke-on-Trent;
- a schools' education pack; and
- a public Festival of Fables.
The full collection will be formally deposited with the Staffordshire Archives and Heritage Service, so it stays in public custodianship for good.
