Songs for Health Equality
Hide the Vegetables in the Cake
Songbook
About this project
Turning complex local health-inequality issues into short, memorable songs you actually want to listen to.
The idea
Public-health information is easy to ignore and easy to forget. A song isn't. Each track is a small “audio fable” that hides the vegetables (the evidence) inside something tasty: the tune. It uses entertainment-education and the pull of a good story to make health information stick where a leaflet wouldn't.
What it produces
A collection of 5 songs, each built around a specific local health inequality, including:
- wellbeing access for refugees and asylum seekers;
- housing and wellbeing;
- weight stigma and healthcare avoidance;
- transport barriers to care; and
- poverty and food insecurity.
The songs are shared with Community Health Champions and third-sector partners as conversation-starters in listening sessions, and published with learning notes on a simple digital Songbook page. Facilitator worksheets accompany the tracks with lyrics and questions, designed for group use.
