Gratitude Walks for Wellbeing
Getting outside and paying attention
About this project
Getting outside and paying attention were combined into one easy habit for body and mind.
Still walking
The project itself has ended, but Closer to Home run led group walks in Stoke-on-Trent's green and blue spaces every day of the week.
The idea
A gratitude walk is simply a walk where you notice. You move your body, you spend time in the green and blue spaces around you, and you let yourself register what's actually there and worth being glad of.
We made a Gratitude Walks Guidebook and Journal to go with it: step-by-step help for planning your own walks, ideas for getting the most from them, and journalling prompts for reflecting afterwards and tracking how you're doing.
Why it mattered here
The project targeted issues that affect a lot of people in Stoke-on-Trent: loneliness and social isolation, the difficulty of reaching wellbeing support in the first place, and the lack of ordinary, sociable things to do nearby.
